Colombia is known around the world for its coffee production. Yet what most folks don't know is that although the country is one of the largest coffee producing countries globally, very little of the coffee is sold within the country, and the farmers and producers who export the coffee receive but a fraction of what it sells for in the Global North. Thread Coffee co-founder Casey McKeel spent the month of March 2013 visiting coffee farms in Colombia, researching coffee trade and its impacts - both positive and negative - on communities. This trip established a relationship with Fondo Paez, where Thread currently buys their Colombian coffee. Casey will share a photo reportback and interviews with farmers, looking at the dynamics of coffee trade on the ground in Colombia. The presentation will be accompanied by a cupping of Thread's Colombian coffee from the department of Cauca.
