A member of the Baltimore chapter of the Black Panther Party, Eddie Conway was incarcerated in 1971 after he discovered deep federal infiltration of the Baltimore branch. Accused of murder in a case filled with dubious evidence and unjust tactics on the part of the state, Eddie would go on to spend 43+ years incarcerated in Maryland—during which time he was a consistent organizing force behind bars, agitating for the rights of prisoners and building networks of mentorship, education, and healing with the Friend of a Friend initiative. Released in 2014, he continued this organizing work, as a leader in the Tubman House project to reclaim land for community self-determination in West Baltimore, and as a producer for the Real News Network.
