Writing in dialogue with emancipatory political movements, the intergenerational writers assembled here imagine an altogether overturned world in poems that pursue the particular and multiple trans relationships to desire, embodiment, housing, sex, ecology, history, pop culture, and the working day.

This event is organized by Jo Giardini, with the The Winston Tabb Special Collections Research Center at the Johns Hopkins Sheridan Libraries, as part of their 2024 speaker series.

Andrea Abi-Karam is a trans, SWANA punk poet-performer cyborg. Their second book, VILLAINY (Nightboat Books, 2021),_ _reimagines militant collectivity in the wake of the Ghost Ship Fire and the Muslim Ban. They are currently working on a poet's novel about crushes.

Kay Gabriel is the author of A QUEEN IN BUCKS COUNTY (Nightboat, 2022) and KISSING OTHER PEOPLE OR THE HOUSE OF FAME (Rosa Press, 2021; Nightboat, 2023). With Andrea Abi-Karam, she co-edited WE WANT IT ALL: AN ANTHOLOGY OF RADICAL TRANS POETICS (Nightboat, 2020), a finalist for the Publishing Triangle and Lambda Literary Awards. In 2019 she joined the editorial collective for the Poetry Project Newsletter.
