@ 2640 in March: Adam Smith in Beijing

Jan 25, 2008

On March 5th, we're extremely excited to be hosting what promises to be one of the best discussions on international political economy you're likely to hear in Baltimore this year, centered around Giovanni Arrighi 's new book Adam Smith in Beijing: Lineages of the 21st Century, which analyzes the crisis of US hegemony, tying together the long American economic decline, the spectacular rise of China as a major economic power, and the geopolitics of resistance to US imperialism, and trying to illuminate the economic and political contours of the coming century in the world-system.  Giovanni Arrighi will be joined by a panel of distinguished scholars presenting critical responses to the arguments in Adam Smith, including David Harvey, Xudong Zhang, and Joel Andreas.  Staytuned for more details
