YES, IT’S BACK! We know you’ve been away from the power of the Vibe for too long; now you get to experience it anew in the awesome, expanded new location of Red Emma’s Bookstore Coffeehouse! Join us for a poetry/spoken word open mic of justice, liberation, real life, spirituality, family, what moves you to hold on and advance! In the tradition of Emma Goldman’s Mother Earth magazine, come drop some progressive “fiyah” on us, or contribute just with your presence and energy! By the way: this ain’t the erotica session or the sexy love night—except for the realization that justice is sexy and, as Che Guevara said, “the true revolutionary is guided by great feelings of love.” Bring that knowledge, that questioning, that self-awareness, that tapping into spirit, that wrestling with matters, that consciousness (whatever that may mean to you), that advancing the village—that love of all people! (And leave the misogyny, homophobia and other needless ish outside!)   OUR FEATURE POET: Justin Woo is a Rutgers graduate, a Jersey City resident, and a Chinese-American poet, theatre artist, and DJ! He has performed at universities, theaters, and slam venues in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire, including the 2007 NYC Fringe Festival and the Tony Award-winning Crossroads Theatre. He was a member of the 2011 and 2012 Jersey City Slam team, and is a slam committee member at JC Slam. He also performs with The Fractal Ensemble, an experimental spoken word rock band based out of New York/New Jersey. He has collaboratively created several multidisciplinary spoken word theatre pieces, and is currently writing “System Failure,” a science fiction play. Justin’s goal is to encourage positive social and political change through the creation and performance of startling, extraordinary poetry and theatre!   Holdin’ it down for the evening is Analysis--poet & spoken word artist, organizer, minister, activist, educator, consultant!  You already know… ;)   WHY: Because you love justice, and you love the arts!

MIC LIST OPENS AT 7:00pm!

It’s FREE! (Please support the Coffeehouse and the feature, if you are able!)

The evening is brought to you by Red Emma’s Bookstore Coffeehouse, a worker-owned and collectively-operated restaurant, coffee roaster, bookstore, and community events space located in Baltimore's Station North neighborhood that is dedicated to putting principles of solidarity and sustainability into practice in a democratic workplace! Here you’ll find delicious transparently traded, organic coffee, espresso and tea, as well as a selection of vegan and vegetarian food. Get here early so you can check out the books and periodicals on a wide range of topics, with a focus on radical politics and culture. Plus, there’s free internet access!

Remember: PEACE, JUSTICE, & POETRY!! Will we see you? :)

(Mature language and themes may be involved; not suggested for younger children.)
