Paul Goodman: Anarchist

Sunday Mar 18, 4PM @ Red Emma's

Paul Goodman was a pacifist & anarchist whose beliefs, expressed in prose, poetry, & social criticism, helped shape the doctrine of the New Left of the 1960s. Committed to personal & sexual freedom, he believed that society's institutions inhibited innate human creativity, caring, & nonviolence. His writings covered a wide range of topics -- education, city planning, psychotherapy, & literary criticism -- reflecting some of the varied careers he had while continuing to work for social change. During the Indochina War, Paul Goodman was a staunch supporter of the Resistance to the Draft movement & its participants, & an articulate proponent of a mass-based nonviolent movement against the War. Join us for a Sunday afternoon discussion of Paul Goodman's writings and ruminations on anarchism, hosted by Taylor Stoehr, cultural and literary scholar, editor of numerous volumes of Goodman's work, and current literary executor of Goodman's work. Don't miss this unique opportunity to learn more about Goodman's tragically underappreciated work!

Don't miss it!
