East Coast reading and launch event from "Outsiders Within: Writing on Transracial Adoption"
Friday Nov 17, 7:30PM @ Red Emma's
To coincide with the Midwest and West Coast book releases, soo na will read her piece from the anthology, "Outsiders Within: Writing on Transracial Adoption." This ground-breaking book, released in October of 2006 by South End Press, includes powerful work by artists and writers, including law professor Dorothy Roberts, author of, "Killing the Black Body: Race, Reproduction, and the Meaning of Liberty," and visual artist Tracey Moffatt.
soo na's essay, "Garlic and Salt," addresses the intimate complexities of
race, memory, and family, specific to the experiences of one young Corean
woman. It is praxis at its most poignant, interlocking the fluid
relationship between the political as personal.
