Herstory 19th century edition

Thursday Apr 26, 7PM @ Red Emma's

Homos in Herstory is a queer history comics series produced by Elvis Bakaitis.  There have been countless gay figures in American history, but these are easily forgotten over time: can you name the country's first gay President, or tell which famous lesbian is featured on a US coin? Homos in Herstory uncovers these, and many more secret tales, in an appealing, illustrated booklet. Each edition of the series covers a different decade of the 20th century.

Elvis Bakaitis is a Brooklyn-based zinester and future librarian. This year, Elvis will be giving talks on queer history at Rutgers University, the Hedrick-Martin Institute (home of Harvey Milk High School), and Red Emma’s Bookstore Coffeehouse in Baltimore. They also facilitate the monthly feminist bookclub at Bluestockings Bookstore. Currently, they are working on Homos in Herstory, a comics zine that focuses on 19th and 20th century queer history. You can find their zines at many local, independent bookstores, at their Etsy shop, Captain Elvis’ Cartoon Shack, or on their website: http://elvis007.wordpress.com
