"Caravan/Prague"

Thursday Jun 25, 8PM @ Red Emma's

Hello, all Baltimoreans, activits, rabble-rousers, bikers, and the like. Red Emma's is proud to present our Summer Screening Series 2009.

(More information will be coming very, very, very soon! We promise!)

To kick-off our screening series, we're proud to present the documentary "Caravan/Prague: The Uneasy Road to Change".

This documentary, by the much adored filmmaker/activist, Jack Winestine, chronicles the journey of a bicycle caravan as they travel 500-miles across Europe to join protests against the IMF and World Bank in Prague, in 2000. The caravan was made up of over 100 anarchist cyclists (which I'm sure provides a storyline in and of itself) that sought  to be a mobile utopia that existed without money, leaders, and authority figures. Winestine films the struggles and joys of the group as he bikes along. The footage is raw, the scenery is beautiful, and the quest provides an intensity all it's own. Afterall, creating a community that is non-hierarchical, autonomous, and aims to fulfill all of its dreams... well, it is never easy... but, as we see in this film, it is definitely worth the ride.

We hope you will join us as we kick-off our summer screening series. There is no charge. We simply hope for your presence.

In Solidarity,

Red Emma's

Words from the director/filmmaker:

A bicycle caravan -- with the theme, "Money or Life" -- travels 500 miles across Europe to join protests in Prague against the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.  The landscape is beautiful, and bicycles possess their own poetry.  But it's not always easy functioning without money.  The authorities have their own ideas about policing the intersection of utopia and everyday life.  And should the caravan succeed in getting to Prague, there's the matter of shutting down the World Bank/IMF meeting...

"An absolutely fascinating road trip populated by real and endlessly interesting people. First rate." – Wade Major, DigiGods

"An affecting, effective piece of documentary filmmaking... Wonderful" – Rod Amis, CinemActivist.com
