The Red & Black Ball!

Saturday Dec 13, 7:30PM @ 2640 (2640 St. Paul St.)

Mark your calendars, my fine friends and fellow mischief-makers: the Red and Black Ball is one holiday party you absolutely won't want to miss.  Join the Red Emma's collective as we celebrate the traditional anarchist gift-giving season with an all-out, over-the-top evening of revelry in your steampunk-era red and black finest!  Think Victorian-era dances, parlour games, phrenology, bands of travellers, and, of course, spirits to warm your body and soul.  Think renaissance festival dress gone anarchist.  Think Alan Moore ("V for Vendetta," League of Extraordinary Gentlemen").  Live and DJ'd music (from a gramophone!) throughout the evening, as well as a seance and other performances led by our very own Master of Ceremonies, Ryan Coffman, with the help of a variety of Baltimore favorites including Ric Royer!

Still wondering what we're talking about?  The Red and Black Ball is a neo-Victorian-themed masquerade ball!  Pull out that fancy dress you picked up at a thrift store; borrow your brother's tuxedo!  Make a mask (think Venetian carnival) or just come on out and decorate one of the free masks available at the event.  Here's a chance to celebrate the gift-giving season with an evening that's more memorable than putting on a horrible, holiday sweater and watching "Miracle on 34th Street" for the ten-thousandth time. On this December night, there will be mystery and allure - let's paint the night red and black!

It all takes place at 2640 Saint Paul Street, December 13, starting at 7:30PM.  Tickets are $10-$15 sliding scale, and tickets include food and a free drink.  Masks provided for those who need them.  Proper attire is NOT required, but isn't it more fun to cobble a costume together?  Email info@redemmas.org for more info ...

Still wondering what it's all about?  Check out these links for inspiration:

Somewhat horrifying rules of etiquette.  (Ladies are allowed - and encouraged - to cross the room unattended at the Red and Black Ball ...):

"Proper" attire.  Take it with a grain of salt and pull something together out of whatever you can lay your hands on ... go nuts!  The more Red and Black the better ...

And ... Seriously. Awesome. Mask.

Red Emma's is open Monday through Saturday from 10AM-10PM, and Sunday from 10AM-6PM. Our weekly collective meetings are Sunday at 7PM, and are open to anyone interested in the project.
Red Emma's is part of IU 660 of the Industrial Workers of the World, one of the only unions to recognize that worker collectives can stand in solidarity with those fighting the bosses as part of one big union.
